Inquiry in PE

As a PE practitioner for over the past ten years in the IB system, I am very curious about what other teaching professionals think about the role that inquiry plays in a physical education program. I am not very familiar with the UK system, but would like to know how it compares to the IB (primary years program) system. To what extent are enduring concepts such as resilience, perseverance, commitment, communication, and teamwork assessed in the UK system. Please view a model for inquiry in PE that I created based on my experience teaching in the IB primary years program and let me know your thoughts on the role that inquiry plays in the UK system. I am trying to work my way through a better understanding of  different national PE curriculums. To see my model for inquiry in PE, please view this link:  http://www.pyppewithandy.com/2/post/2012/01/a-model-for-inquiry-in-pe.html

I hope to hear people's opinion's on this topic. Thanks!

Hi Andy, I have worked in both IB PYP, UK NC, Canadian BC Curriculum and currently IB MYP. The biggest issue I have with the UK system is that the assessment is strictly based on student performance. The weaker the performance the lower the score, without any focus made on developing lifelong habits or supporting development. Honestly the system is poor at the primary and middle school ages, but what I did like a lot were the options available to students at the GCSE and A-Level options. Inquiry processes are not involved, it is very much a command and/or practice model of teaching with little opportunity for exploration and discovery to occur. Hope this helps a little, although now reading it I seem very much biased. Cheers, Ken
